Loyola Marymount University Campus

Thank you to all who attended EduSoCal'14

Dear Friends & Supporters of EduSoCal,

It’s with decidedly mixed feelings that we are letting you know that we have decided to not hold the EduSoCal’15 Conference scheduled for Spring 2015. For those of you interested, more details on our thoughts and plans follow below.

When we launched EduSoCal in 2010, we believed that we were filling a need to a low-cost regional conference on technology in higher education to serve Southern California. From the beginning, it’s been a gratifying experience to see just how right we were. Through the conferences at Loyola Marymount University (three times), Long Beach City College, and CSU Channel Islands, there has been a total attendance close to 1,000 people. We’ve had some great experiences and wonderful times, built stronger connections with people we knew and made new connections with people from across our area and beyond.

On the other hand, it’s also been a lot of work, not just for us, but especially for those that have supported us on our campuses. With Jay now in San Francisco, Crista and Michael aren’t able to put in the effort it takes to present another great EduSoCal conference for this coming Spring. If you know us, you know that we never settle for less than a great experience. We’ve had generous offers of assistance, but this is such a personal effort that no matter what help we get
we still feel the intense responsibility to produce a better EduSoCal every year, and for us it’s all or nothing. We have
loved it all, but we have other things that need our attention and our commitment this year.

We have discussed alternative events that would require less preparation, such as a Spring 2015 EduSoCal meet-up
or meet-ups of some kind. (Stay tuned to hear about those.) We also haven’t ruled out reviving EduSoCal for 2016.

Thank you to everyone who has presented at EduSoCal, to all the attendees, to our sponsors who have made it possible
to charge the ridiculously low $50, and especially to Dan Olsen and Richard Cawood and our incredible campus staff members who have never let us down. It’s been a great ride, and there’s more coming in the future.
